Establishment and Early Journey

“Sangeet Sudhakar” Swami Shreevallabhdasji believed that art serves more than entertainment; it is a means to train the mind and enhance spiritual awareness.

Shreevallabh Shikshan Sangeet Ashram, owes its existence to the seeds sown by Sangeet Sudhakar Late Pooya Swami Shreevallabhdasji.

It had been an ardent desire of Swamiji to establish a music academy and an ideal school in a good surrounding with strong emphasis on Indian culture. He established Shreevallabh Shikshan Sangeet Ashram, at Sion, Mumbai in the year 1950 to offer its submissive mite towards modern education and Indian Fine Arts. It was inaugurated by Shri Kaka Kalelkar, a well-known litterateur of Gujarat.

The sangeetalaya has been conducting various classes since 1958 which include Hindustani Vocal , Harmonium, Tabla ,Sitar, Bharat Natyam, Sangeetalaya is also known for hosting performances by renowned maestros such as Ustad Allahrakha, Padmabhushan Pandit C.R. Vyas, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Sangeet Martand Pt. Jasraj.

Foundation: SHREEVALLABH SHIKSHAN SANGEET ASHRAM was
established in 1950 to advance the Art and Science of Indian Classical Music and Dance. Shri Kakasaheb Kalelkar, a distinguished literateur from Gujarat, laid the foundation stone of the institution.

Development: Swami Shreevallabhdasji, who performed both in India and abroad, developed the Sangeetalaya’s infrastructure with support from his disciples Swami Chaitanya Swarupdasji ( Vocalist Agra Gharana exponent) and Swami Hariprasaddasji, a tabla player and the current acting Chairman who took forward the mission a school that aimed at providing modern education based on Indian Cultural values.

Infrastructure: The institution is housed in its own building, having 11 classrooms with well-maintained instruments and featuring a spacious Sabhagriha with a capacity of 250 people.

Our founder, “Sangeet Sudhakar” Swami Shreevallabhdasji, believed that art was not created merely for entertainment or amusement but to train the mind. Shreevallabh Sangeetalaya is a school of music, dance, and yoga dedicated to restoring the dignity of these art forms while reconnecting them with their ancient scientific foundations.

The Sangeetalaya believes that training students in Indian Raagdari vocal and instrumental music, as well as dance, through a structured syllabus and graded courses, will help future generations develop an appreciation for Indian music. Starting this training at an early age helps children become more focused, stimulates the right side of the brain, enhances creativity, boosts confidence, and familiarizes them with India’s rich cultural roots.

In addition, the Sangeetalaya organizes public demonstrations, festivals, and lecture-demonstrations to promote and popularize these art forms, giving students broad exposure to the fields of music and dance. The Sangeetalaya is committed to fostering holistic development in its students.

At Sangeetalaya, we believe in celebrating Guru Purnima instead of an annual day. This event provides a meaningful platform for our students to perform on stage, helping them build confidence and overcome stage fright while honoring the tradition of paying tribute to their gurus.
